Oh, yeah, they’re all local stories. Nothing is too local.

    1. leon

      Barring SMOD isn’t everything local?

      1. No.

And that would be the most local story.

Always blame the French, no wonder the frogs are gay

French authorities last seen frantically dog-paddling against a rip tide.

Twitter sucks after they banned all those people. Well, I mean it always sucked, but when everyone outrageous is all on the same side it just gets boring. After they ban Burge and McCafee, I’m going to weld the doors shut, and burn the place down.

I see the problem. It would have been OK if a ship loaded with turkey ran up on gravel.

    1. IF SHIP FULL TURKEY, MAYBE SEA SMITH GO LOOK! THEN SEA SMITH HAVE THANKSGIVING EVERY DAY.

      1. leon

SEA SMITH should be wary of turkey, they were recalled yesterday.

Good morning, SEA! Question: are mermaids real and, if so, how do they reproduce?

      1. broadcast spawning.

    1. straffinrun

Give a sperm whale a blow job?

    2. Count Potato

I always wondered about that. If you are dating a mermaid, is it just blowjobs?

      1. No, they will rip you to shreds so the spawnlings have something to feed upon.

      2. now now… based on my (many many) viewings of Splash! mermaids can transform themselves into Darryl Hannah as need be.

        I’ll be in my bunk.

        1. That was just a fever dream from an infected bite wound.

      3. Slammer

        They have a secret blowhole

    3. Festus

The male creates a nesting site in the gravel and defends it. The females deposits hundreds or thousands of eggs in the nest and then the male hovers just upstream and releases his milt over the eggs. Very pedestrian and un-sexy.

Mermaids are real (tw: autoplay audio and video), And as to how they reproduce, they are the product of Florida Man and manatee. Any mermaids born are put in a state park and protected.

      1. leon

Like I said last thread. No one can change the past, and gun laws don’t stop this shit. Let people take care of each other. Saying “what good are your thoughts and prayers” is as cliche as “thoughts and prayers” with no good will

        1. Pat

      1. straffinrun

I think if she closes her mouth for more than a minute her eyes would explode out of head.

    6. It’s weird that the new hip thing is to chastise people for offering their sympathy, but it does tell you a lot about the modern left.

Also, semi-related: it finally happened. My wife finally proved she’s basically just in a quest to troll the shit out of me until I have a stroke. Yesterday she says, “Oh my god, you know who my new favorite politician is?”
“No, fuck no, don’t god damn say it.”
      “What’s her name? Cortez something?”
“Get out of my sight. Either stop drinking or drink a hell of a lot more.”
“You just don’t like her because she’s a woman, and you can’t stand women in politics.”
“Well, she does make Nancy Pelosi look like an intelligent, reasonable person, so she may in fact be capable of miracles.”

I’m going to blame it on Maryland’s absolutely shit performance yesterday.

      1. cyto

        Politics and marriage are rough.

I had my wife 80% converted to libertarianism from extreme SJW…. but TDS has taken hold – which would be fine, except TDS requires that everyone who says bad things about Trump be applauded, even if they are severely mentally retarded or morally bankrupt.

So now I try really, really hard to avoid disagreeing with her feelz out loud. Because, as you probably know, wives tend to have that “if you disagree with me on something it is a personal attack” gene installed with the wedding ring.

        1. Yeah, I just told her straight up that I’m not going to talk about politics with her because I don’t care what Trump’s latest tweet said and because she can’t discuss politics with me without trying to “win”. It’s a little sad because we used to be able to have civil, interesting debates, but when Obama came in it turned into a fight any time I didn’t talk about how wonderful he was, and with Trump it’s the opposite. But it’s fine, because there are much more important things in life.

          1. prolefeed

There are a few, narrowly defined things in politics that my wife and I can discuss, mostly centering around civil rights and cops not mowing down innocent young black men.

Other than that, we generally steer clear other than the occasional ascerbic noting of what happened that day, sans commentary.

    7. Rebel Scum

Did she really say something about the NRA? Wtf would the NRA possibly have to do with events in a foreign country?

      1. She’s both cunning AND stupid.

        1. cyto

          Look. Dude had a gun.

          QED, dumbass.

What part of “gun” was too hard to understand? Someone had a gun and did something bad. Therefore, everyone who thinks guns have a use is literally Hitler. And Hitler was this really bad leader who was a white supremacist, which is the worst thing you can be, so if you don’t think guns are the devil then you are a white supremacist and Hitler.

          1. Well, really, what New Zealand needs is common sense gun control. It’s not the 1800s. The Kiwis don’t need to be running around armed to the teeth with fully automatic assault grenade launchers like they do.

          2. It’s time to upgrade to fully automatic rocket-propelled grenade launchers.

          3. cyto

Now you have made the internet unsafe. Nobody can feel safe around here… we need a safe space! Your speech is dangerous and harmful, and it would be totally appropriate to use actual violence to stop such violent speech.

Plus, talking about RPGs is racist, because they use RPGs in the middle east. Or Africa, or some other country like that, where people are like, brown or something. So check your racist privilege. /AOC voice.

Until now, New Zealand had not had a mass shooting since June 1994, when David Bain, 22, killed his father Robin, mother Margaret, his sisters Arawa and Laniet , and his brother Stephen.

New Zealand tightened gun laws after the Aramoana massacre of November 1990, which saw 13 people shot dead in a small township near Dunedin , following a neighbourhood dispute.

So fuck off slavers. You can’t have them.

Minnesota Democrat Leaders Reportedly Looking for Primary Challenger Against Ilhan Omar

Can a primary challenger win? Omar replaced Keith Ellison, who has a history with anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan and anti-Israel activists. Despite these ties, Ellison remained popular and Minnesota citizens even voted him for attorney general of the state in November.

Dr. Eric Ostermeier explored the possibility at Smart Politics. If a primary challenger defeats Omar, that person will make history in Minnesota:

With Democratic leadership largely standing by her side, it is unlikely the path to unseating Omar in a primary will be easy.

Should such an attempt be made and were it successful, it would be a first in the annals of Minnesota Democratic politics.

Of the 128 true freshmen Minnesota U.S. Representatives to seek a second term since statehood, only four have failed to win their party’s nomination – and just two during the last century. All were Republicans.

No chance. This grifter will be in place long after I flee this stupid fucking state.

    2. straffinrun

She barely even tries to conceal her hatred. It just oozes from her in every clip I’ve seen of her. Team Blue has no problem with hatred, but they usually like it masked with something like “hope and change”. I think she’ll get ousted if not next election, then the next one.

      1. leon

She’s insufferable and painful to listen to. The temptation to smack that grin off her face is enormous.

      1. AlexinCT

Media did its best to hide this shit because getting a democrat elected was more important than anything else. Now they are stuck with this.

Speaking of bullshit. Did anyone of the people in VA accused of various sundry non-SJW activities ever get the hatchet? Or did it all basically go away since the dems realized if they did force these people to be held accountable, they would lose their ability to jury rig the redistricting efforts going on? 1. Scruffy Nerfherder

Attending the trial of the three who contested the charges against them, I found that these Minnesota men gave the outward appearance of American assimilation, even though—as became apparent in the recordings introduced into evidence—they all hated the United States. They were young, educated, and bilingual. They moved into and out of the workforce at will. The FBI’s Somali informant worked on the tarmac at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, de-icing planes along with one of the convicted co-conspirators. At one time, all three of the men on trial worked at a local UPS facility in a leafy St. Paul suburb, where they enjoyed watching ISIS videos during their breaks.

I found that they were sophisticated users of social-welfare benefits. Two of four Somali-Minnesotans intercepted at JFK airport in New York en route to Syria had used federal financial-aid funds to finance their travel; one of the defendants even financed one of his planned trips to Syria with a $5,000 debit-card withdrawal on his student-loan account. The daycare case also demonstrates savvy insight into the opportunities to take advantage of the quasi-governmental American social-services apparatus. Ten daycare centers are under investigation for fraud, and dozens more are suspected. Search warrants show that each of these daycare centers has received several million dollars in child-care assistance funds. According to public records and government sources, most are owned by Somali immigrants.

Fulfill their desires and permanently ship them to the last ISIS holdout in Syria.

I’ve got some thoughts on how to handle the politicians who enable this bullshit as well.

“can take advantage of some of America’s most generous welfare and charity programs.” Professor Ahmed Samatar of Macalester College in St. Paul observed, “Minnesota is exceptional in so many ways but it’s the closest thing in the United States to a true social democratic state.”

Let’s export this social democratic thing across the whole nation, it’ll be great. Maybe we can get billions transferred out of the country to terrorist organizations. Well beyond the amount the Federal government already sends out.

Former Mt. Gox CEO Mark Karpeles Gets Suspended Jail Term

Mark Karpeles, a central figure in the early days of Bitcoin who presided over the dramatic 2014 collapse of the world’s biggest cryptocurrency exchange, was found guilty of tampering with financial records but will likely avoid jail time after receiving a suspended sentence.

The former Mt. Gox chief executive officer sometimes mixed his personal finances with those of the exchange and fiddled with its accounts, apparently to hide the fact that the platform had lost money to hackers, the Tokyo District Court said on Friday. The court cleared Karpeles of embezzlement charges, concluding that the 33-year-old Frenchman had acted without ill intent.

Karpeles, who wore a dark suit in court and bowed to the judge before his sentence was handed down, wasn’t on trial for the mysterious disappearance of Bitcoins that led to Mt. Gox’s implosion. He was given a 2 1/2 year suspended sentence, which he won’t have to serve unless he commits another violation within four years.

An Italian teenager chose to mark his 15th Birthday, which took place on Holocaust Commemoration Day, with two cakes designed with a portrait of Adolf Hitler, Simon Wiesenthal Center Europe reported Thursday.

The two cakes bore Italian texts, one saying “Hello darling? Turn up the oven, I am coming home!” The other: “Let’s go… Today, we’ll have an all gas [full throttle] evening!”
Three of the teenager’s friends who were present refused to taste the cake and reported the event to their teacher. The parents of the teen and the teen cake’s baker claim it was prank with no intention to offend.

In a letter to the President of the Italian National Partisans Association Carla Nespolo, Dr. Shimon Samuels, Simon Wiesenthal Center director of international relations, urged “ANPI to investigate and seek appropriate measures against the parents and the pastry cook” for offending “the anti-Nazi resistance and the victims of the Holocaust.”

    1. The whole point of the joke is that it shocks sensitibilities, so yes, there was intent to offend.

But that also should not be anything that goes past the immediate social circle. There is no reason a juvenile joke from Italy should be being discussed, well, by anyone who doesn’t know the kid.

      1. leon

Especially, as you point out it’s not particularly funny. Teens have been getting their kicks shocking their elders since forever. Barring allowing parents to summarily execute them, it’s not going to stop.

Democrat Presidential Candidate Andrew Yang: ‘One Generation Away From Americans Shooting Asians’

“And so if you look at what’s happening right now in this country, you can see an increasingly insecure white majority becoming more and more hostile, truly. And who is going to be the boogeyman of the next 10 to 20 years? Who’s going to be the great rival to the United States in the eyes of American in society? China, that’s right.”

“And so what do you think the attitude is going to be over time for the shrinking insecure white majority that’s losing their jobs for let’s say Chinese Americans or Asian Americans?” Yang added.”I think we’re one generation away from falling into the same camps as the Jews who were attacked in the synagogue in Pittsburgh like just a couple months ago. Like we’re probably one generation away from Americans shooting up a bunch of Asians saying like, you know, ‘damn the Chinese because there’s a giant cold war even more with China.’”

What a shitbag. Back in the ’80s Japan was the boogeyman. And nothing else happened.

Is Howard Zinn stil l influential? The source of this madness has to be rooted in the belief whites are evil and have to be toppled (though not sure how this can happen. Mind you, maybe they know the demographics are shifting in their favour hence all this talk? ). How else to understand this? If you’re a white, moderate Democrat or liberal how can you stand there and listen to someone call you and your race murderers and then vote for them?

      It blows my mind.

The entire Democrat field is filled with psychos. How this party continues on is beyond me.

      1. Scruffy Nerfherder

You mean Matt Damon’s favorite historian, Howard Zinn?

      2. Demographics are not the magical thing people make them out to be. Even were people a collective monolith based on hue, you’d have to discard the ‘hispanic’ number, because that is not an ethnic grouping – the palest argentines and the darkest dominicans both get lumped under that header.

As for Zinn, his corruption is still in play because the public schools use his drivel.

I can count more Asian-American acquaintances who were pissed that their jobs were off-shored to Asia than I can count white Americans that were pissed that an Asian-American took their job. I know several Americans who are pissed that they got laid off and replaced with Asians living in America working on short contracts without bothering to become citizens – but the anger is directed at their American bosses, not at the schmuck who took over their job.

      1. I was more angry that my job was being offshored to people who were proven incompetent at it. It doesn’t save any money if they spend forty-five minutes and escalate a five minute problem.

Damnation. I watched the guy on Rogan’s podcast. He seemed like a decent fairly moderate Democrat. It was kind of refreshing actually. I miss having Democrats that while I disagreed with their politics at least seemed willing to have discussions that weren’t based totally on bigoted generalizations about racial groups. And now here he is, peddling the same stuff as the rest of them. “Increasingly insecure white majority”? On what evidence? “More and more hostile”? Based on what?

      1. Well, when insulted and attacked routinely by people with far bigger platforms than I have, I do get kinda surly.

I watched a couple of episodes of Barney Miller a few weeks ago. Not bad. Made me nostalgic for better times. I also noticed how the old sitcoms really look like theater plays that have been filmed.

          4. l0b0t

I’ll put in a plug for Naked City. NYC in the late ’50s – early ’60s; the cops are all Irish and quick with their batons, the old detective is wise and knows that patience and thoroughness crack cases, and the new detective is trying to learn the ropes. The stories were adapted from actual NYPD case files and it was, IIRC, the first TV show shot entirely on location in NYC. Good stuff.

This reminds me of one time when I was listening to a radio interview of a Texas football player. He had just the most stereotypical full-on Texas country accent, and they were talking about football and then switched to talking about a recent trip he had taken to the land of his ancestors – Japan! His all-American persona was confirmed when his assessment of Japan was that it was a cool place but that it smelled like fish.

Bruce Ohr Revealed Political Operatives Got The FBI To Investigate The NRA

Ohr further explained that from July 30, 2016 until November 2017, both Steele and Simpson provided him “intel” related to supposed collusion between Russia and members of the Trump campaign. Ohr then passed this information on to the FBI, where it was used to, among other things, obtain FISA court orders to surveil and otherwise target the Trump campaign team.

But in an abbreviated aside, Ohr causally revealed one communique with Simpson that indicates the Fusion GPS founder pushed another false story that unleashed multiple federal investigations into the NRA.

During questioning, Ohr stated that Simpson mentioned “that Cleta Mitchell became aware of money moving through the NRA or something like that from Russia.” Ohr added that Simpson claimed that Mitchell—a D.C. attorney specializing in campaign-finance law and a former member of the NRA board of directors—“was upset about it.” But when asked how Simpson found out about Mitchell, Ohr testified, “I don’t think he said.”

Weaponized bureaucracies are more dangerous than any armament. I think it’s time for some common sense federal agency control, starting with strict personnel limits. No legitimate agencies need more than 10 people.

This sounds like a toss-off line, but it really shocks the conscience that we live in a time where wire-tapping the opposing campaign doesn’t even rate a raised eyebrow. Then they openly bragged about moving classified information around in order to leak it after the inauguration – specifically with the intent to bring down the incoming president.

The press excused the Clinton administration acting like a bunch of schoolboy crybabies when they left the white house (remember all the W’s being removed from the keyboards, etc.?) – but I doubt you could have gotten any of them to condone even 1% of what the Obama administration would later do – and yet they not only fail to object, they openly cheer it on.

My life in sex: ‘My fear of losing my erection meant I could no longer enjoy sex’

Until five years ago, I was lucky enough to have led a long, exciting and varied sex life. That all came crashing down one innocuous morning, three weeks into a new relationship when, despite being in bed with a beautiful woman, I just couldn’t achieve an erection. This had never happened before, but the harder I tried, the softer I got. My head was in overdrive – what had happened to me? After a few more attempts I fled, consumed by self-pity and shame.

Desperate for a solution, I ordered Viagra. This helped with the basic mechanics, but my fear of losing my erection meant I could no longer enjoy sex. Soon I was psychologically dependent, and if I forgot my pills, sex became impossible. In a desperate attempt to feel masculine again, and to see if I could perform with another woman, I cheated. When I got caught, my girlfriend (rightfully) gave me hell, and I came clean about my reasons. She was supportive, and I wished I’d been more open before my problem had become such an issue.

Working with a hypnotist has taught me valuable relaxation techniques, and communicating with my partner has been hugely important – but I still have the same niggling fear. Sex is fine most of the time, but I can’t be as adventurous as I once was. When I know it’s on the cards, I put pressure on myself and struggle to perform. I also try to make sure we both climax in the shortest time possible, minimising the risk of losing my erection.

Eh. He could have used Bowie to produce all of his albums. Transformer has some great songs on it — and a couple of total misses. Whether he was any good or not, a lot of the stuff he and John Cale were experimenting with in The Velvet Underground had long reaching influence.I have to say that the Rock’n’Roll Animal EP blew my mind the first time I heard it — although that was a lot more about putting together a ridiculous band. 22. Bring Back Eisenhower Socialism

What would today’s hysterical Republicans say about the “socialist” presidency of Dwight Eisenhower? Most likely they would call him “Red Ike.” After all, during Eisenhower’s two terms between 1953 and 1960, the wealthy paid a top tax rate of 91 percent on incomes over the equivalent of $1.7 million for an individual and $3.4 million for a couple.

That crafty pinko Eisenhower also presided over government-subsidized mortgages that helped millions of Americans purchase their first home and attend college for free. He presided over the construction of public housing and state-owned infrastructure (like highways).

In the early 1960s, the specter of socialism stalked the land again, this time in the form of a proposal to create a national health insurance program to cover senior citizens. Conservatives mounted a full-throated resistance movement to what George H.W. Bush at the time called “socialized medicine.”

The rest of us know it as Medicare.

    1. Festus

Ah, President Ike. The UCS of Presidents.

      1. Not Adahn

Eisenhower wore a lot of gloves?

        1. The bill signing gloves; the Mamie-handling gloves, the White House Privy gloves…

          1. Festus

The Churchill and DeGaulle gloves must be kept at room temperature and at least ten meters apart at all times.

    2. leon

“the wealthy paid a top tax rate of 91 percent on incomes over the equivalent of $1.7 million for an individual and $3.4 million for a couple.”

Correction- that’s what the law was. Did anyone pay that much?

But yes Democrats and Republicans are the same brand of fascists. That’s why the fight so bitterly.

    3. Pat

By all means. Bring back those marginal rates — and all the deductions. Set federal spending as a % of GDP to the same level. Set federal employment as a % of population to the same level. Set regulations to the same level. I’ll bet you quickly find out that Eisenhower socialism was an austerity hellscape.

      1. invisible finger

Also, bring back the capital gains exclusion

    4. Count Potato

“the wealthy paid a top tax rate of 91 percent”

      No, they didn’t.

      1. Drake

That’s also when companies starting compensating people in other ways to avoid the taxes. Company cars. employer paid health insurance, stock options. life insurance, etc. All were schemes to avoid the tax man.

        1. Gustave Lytton

Generous expense accounts, subsidized/free cafeterias, company sponsored mortgage plans, company doctors/nurses/clinics, etc. All of those kept more money in the employees’ pockets without increasing their wages.

    5. For perspective, $1.7 million in 1953 dollars is about $25 million in 2019 dollars in purchasing power. As a share of income, it is closer to $45million.

Not even talking about loopholes and exclusions, what number of people even fell into that bracket?

    6. LJW

      1. That’s not socialism
      2. The effective tax rate was something like 42% on the highest income
      3. Tax rates were already that high before he took office.

      1. straffinrun

As awful as stealing income and dispensing it on a whim is (I’m not calling that “redistribution”), it’s not really state owned means of production. I always thought that was a key element of socialism.

        1. invisible finger

You mean like CalPERS, CalSTERS, The Fed, etc?

          1. straffinrun

Times change and so do definitions. Got me anymore. I just call them all slavers.

          2. invisible finger

      2. Rebel Scum

So you’re saying the article is disingenuous at best.

    7. Suthenboy

I see this mendacious approach all of the time. “Your conservative/libertarian/right wing heroes were all socialists! What about that, huh?”
Fuck Eisenhower. Fuck Reagan. That isnt what we are advocating for. We are advocating for self ownership. Bringing up some other asshole that didn’t respect self ownership is not an argument.

    8. Rufus the Monocled

      I’m not saying I’m a socialist but I’m a socialist.

Whenever I see articles like this mocking the fear of socialism (which is justified in my view) they reveal they’re cowards. Out with it. Like we know the liberal media existed but was denied, it’s the same here with writers and politicians in Congress. Admit it so that way it can be debated in good faith.

This jabbing and pulling back socialism where they knowingly propose a socialist idea while claiming it’s not at the same time is a tactic that people should read through.

      1. Festus

It’s worked gangbusters in our home and native land so seeing as we’re pretty similar why wouldn’t they try to emulate us?

      2. leon

        This^^^

In the same article they call Republicans hysterical. “They call everyone socialist”,but then they don’t stick to the definition of socialist to call Eisenhower a socialist. And finally the then do call for the means of production to be seizes by government.

        1. Rufus the Monocled

“YOU SAID SOCIALISM WAS TAKING OVER THE MEANS OF PRODUCTION AND THAT YOU DIDN’T WANT THAT! SO WHY ARE YOU TAKING OVER MY BUSINESS?!”

“The situation is fluid. Thanks for your vote!”

/waves as person is hauled away!

          1. AlexinCT

New socialism is just the same as old, except now the fucks in power hide the fact that they are pulling all the strings from the plebes whom are told they get to keep their doctor, healthcare, jobs, and even ownership of their companies…

    9. robc

Ike had two years of an actual surplus, not a Clinton “surplus”.

    10. kbolino

Medicare was created under Johnson, not Eisenhower.

Other fun things the “socialist” Eisenhower did:

      – Deported millions of illegal immigrants en masse with no “due process” in an event called Operation Wetback. Nobody batted an eye and Congress raised no objections.

      – Supported coups in a number of left-wing states against democratic governments in favor of authoritarian ones, like Guatemala and Iran.

      – Backed the right-wing illiberal Republic of China government against the communist People’s Republic of China, including guaranteeing the former’s security in Taiwan.

      – Had a cabinet full of corporate executives that was dubbed “eight millionaires and a plumber”

      – Oh, and the Interstate Highway System that bears his name was created for the use of the military against potential communist invasion

      1. l0b0t

You missed what is, IMO, the most important thing Ike did. He was the last POTUS to preside over a balanced budget (FY 1957).

        1. kbolino

I was only calling out things that hadn’t been mentioned before and undermined the “Ike was a pinko” narrative. It’s rare to find a socialist who considers a balanced budget a good thing; today “spend til you drop” is much more common than “be frugal for tommorrow”.

Also, it’s hilarious that the first result for “u.s. budget deficit eisenhower” is a NYT piece about how he came together with the Democrats to balance the budget for 1960. The real balanced budgets happened during the brief window when the Republicans controlled Congress.

    11. ” the wealthy paid a top tax rate of 91 percent on incomes over the equivalent of $1.7 million for an individual and $3.4 million for a couple.”

      No they didn’t.

  23. What happens in Munson stays in Munson…

Munson Men Accused of Having Sex with Farm Animals Negotiate Plea Agreements

The three Munson men accused of having sexual intercourse with farm animals have agreed to plead guilty.

Terry J. Wallace, 41, Matthew J. Brubaker, 33, and Marc T. Measnikoff, 35, were arrested by Clearfield-based state police back on Aug. 18, 2018.

Wallace, Brubaker and Measnikoff were charged with one felony count each of endangering the welfare of children and corruption of minors.

The men were also charged with 1,460 misdemeanor counts of sexual intercourse with an animal and 1,460 summary counts of cruelty to animals.

    1. Judging entirely by appearance, I’d say “Not surprised”.

    2. Festus

That’s a Sunday Go-To-Meeting type of link that keeps me coming back to this Family Friendly site!

    3. LJW

Not one of them named Bubba?

      1. That was the goat.

    4. straffinrun

who were having sexual intercourse with horses, dogs, a cow and a goat on a daily basis.

Of course the goat was last. They’ll eat anything.

    5. Not Adahn

1460 counts? How did they not come down with hoof and mouth disease?

    6. Contrarian P

Who the hell sat there and counted out 1460 acts of intercourse with an animal? Really?

      1. I’m guessing it’s animals multipled by days, resulting in a gross estimate.

        1. You can say that again.

        2. A really gross estimate.

      2. Brett L

1460/365 = 4. Basically, the guys admitted they’d been banging the animals every day for 4 years, so someone did the math (but left off leap day) and charged them to their confession.

      3. straffinrun

        Stormy’s camera man?

    7. invisible finger

    8. Suthenboy

1460? That seems like a oddly exact number. Not 1461 or 1459? How do they know this?

      1. Pope Jimbo

Admit it Suthen. Your suspicions were aroused when 1460 was not divisible by 69. Right?

      2. Rasilio

They apparently had taken pictures of at least some of it, maybe there 1460 identifiably distinct acts in those photos?

    1. Festus

Agreed. Miserable self-absorbed people should not be reproducing. Let the Lach’s of the world keep spawning and we’ll initiate a call for “Liebensraum” for the Glibertariat!

      1. LJW

Agreed but when they one to legislate how many children we can have then we run into a problem.

    2. Pat

If you’re the type of person who thinks you shouldn’t have children because of environmental apocalypse, you’re right.

    3. Count Potato

The world is better now than it ever has been, and is getting better all the time.

      1. Pat

I wouldn’t go nearly that far.

        1. Suthenboy

Why not? It is true. Not all of the world. Much of it is stuck in a pre-industrial economy or an uncivilized culture but more of it than ever is not.

        2. Count Potato

In what way is it worse or getting worse?

          1. straffinrun

I suppose if you price in the future pain and suffering that is coming due when all this debt finally explodes you could make a case for it being a pretty awful time. If you have cancer but you don’t know it…

          2. Pat

Yeah, stuff like that. Re-centralization of government and industry after a half century of neoliberal consensus. Abrogation of most of the rights hard won from the Enlightenment until the fall of the iron curtain. Average lifespan falling on average for the first time in a century. Income stagnant for 30+ years. Diminishing quality of increasingly centralized health care which is well on its way to full nationalization.

Let me turn the question around, in what way is it better or getting better? Is there really anything you can point to besides legal weed and South Park?

          3. Count Potato

You mean the U.S. national debt? If it were paid it off tomorrow, it would still be the world’s richest country by far.

Those are just numbers on ledgers.

Real prosperity is based on technology, natural resources, and property rights.

          6. straffinrun

They may be just numbers, but those are numbers people have been promised. I hope your right and they just default on a bunch of them rather than continue being bled dry in perpetuity.

          7. Rasilio

Globally the world is unquestioningly getting better but you are playing ostrich to try and argue that in the richest countries things are not going backwards.

Great you have a super computer in your pocket that allows you to vapidly walk around and break imaginary pieces of candy. That same super computer is very rapidly being converted into a tool that the government and it’s corporate lackeys use to monitor everything you do and punish you for anti social behavior. The Chinese are at least honest about what they are doing with their system of social credit but you have to be a moron to not see that the same thing is playing out in every advanced economy.

The odds that our rights of any kind and that includes our property rights will survive in any meaningful way into the future without having a civil war of some sort are diminishing every year. We may not be looking at the future that Orwell envisioned in 1984 but Huxleys dystopia isn’t a much better and even that is better than we have to look forward to.

        3. Brett L

Really? The poorest people in the world are richer (not rich but richer), nobody dies of smallpox, there are only 3 cases of polio, and the percentage of people who have access to fresh water and sufficient food has never been higher. Sanitation is almost universally better and the number of young children who die of preventable disease has never been lower. Objectively, this is the best humanity has ever had it.

          1. Suthenboy

And in spite of the best efforts of the misanthropic leftists I fully expect circumstances to continue improving.

The bottom 50% of the world is quickly catching up to where the upper 10% was 50 years ago. That’s good for them, of course. But I’m not part of the bottom 50% of the world cohort, so it doesn’t really do anything for me.

That upper 10% stagnated 30 years ago and is doing its damnedest to throw it in reverse.

          4. Not Adahn

30 years ago the best video game in existence was Wing Commander…

You may be right about that stagnation thingy.

          5. and 25 years ago it was X-Com: Enemy Unknown (which I still play once in a while)

          6. The game was first released for MS-DOS on September 26, 1990

Thirty years ago was 1989, Wing Commander was not playable.

          7. pan fried wylie

            c.1992, WC1 on a 286 PS2.

It was actually MORE playable running that slow. Eventually i played it on a more capable machine and couldn’t hit anything.

          8. Not Adahn

You had to run special software (or just push the Turbo button on some models) to make WC2 slow down enough to be playable on a 486DX.

            WC1 was great on a 386SX.

And because I know that, I’m having real difficulty believing that copies of WC1 weren’t out in public by 1989. By 1990 I was living in a dorm with a NeXT salesman.

          9. Look, if you have a source that shows a release date before 1990, thats one thing, but all the info I can turn up says late 1990.

          10. Brett L

LH, XCom2 is great! And the XCom remake was wonderfully faithful. I have the whole collection. And yes, I’ve gone back and played the original many times over the last 25 years.

          4. Pat

Which is why per-capita GDP increases in Uganda don’t really do much for me in terms of measuring human progress. If we used the year of my birth, 1986, as a starting point, and we confine our analysis to the countries that formed the allied powers in WWII, the picture is substantially less Pollyannaish than you get from a 5,000 year time frame on a simplified graph.

          5. I’m doing better than I was a decade ago.

A decade ago, I was doing better than ten years before that.

The pattern continues. I’m sorry that your personal trajectory hasn’t improved.

          6. Count Potato

Someone gave you a super-computer (>1GHz), that people can buy for $99.

In 1986 a Mac Plus was 8 MHz and cost $2600.

In today’s dollars, that could build an 8 core i9 with a monitor the size of Rhode Island.

          7. Pat

Undeniably economies of scale continue to bring us a larger quantity of cheaper stuff, despite all our best efforts politically to retard that process. But I think looking at it purely in those terms is, at least to a certain extent, whistling past the graveyard on the major shifts taking place politically, economically, and socially.

UCS may be an instructive example. it’s true that my life’s no better today than it was 10 years ago, and very probably won’t be 10 years hence, for reasons having little if anything to do with the general environment. But for the mass of men, accumulating wealth was certainly easier 20 years ago before we went full Japan on monetary policy, the economy shed millions of jobs, housing increased 400% in price, tuition increased 1000% in price, and business formation fell to the lowest level since the Great Depression. In the next 10 years as you start to age into the high-use part of the medical system you can expect to wait 2-3 times longer than you would have 10 years ago to see a physician for an average of 8 minutes — and that’s if we refrain from fucking things up any worse than they are right now. Survival rates for most terminal illnesses haven’t budged in 20 years. When you do wind up in the hospital, you can expect medical errors and MRSA at far higher rates. With the political movements now afoot, you may not be able to count on that accumulated wealth either.

It’s not as if it’s all doom and gloom per se, but there are trends now shaping up that are anything but an unvarnished good, and certainty about an ever-improving future is foolhardy under any circumstances, IMO.

          8. Rasilio

In 1986 a Mac Plus was 8 MHz and cost $2600.

In today’s dollars, that could build an 8 core i9 with a monitor the size of Rhode Island.

Which 99% of people will only use to look at cat memes and surf porn.

Sure a more powerful computer in the hands of a software developer or graphic artist is a massive boost in productivity. The actual benefits of more powerful technology stopped really adding anything to the average persons life a long time ago. Sure you can play a new video game that has better graphics with that new hardware, but if neither the hardware or video game ever existed you would receive the exact same gain in happiness/quality of life playing the video games that existed at the turn of the century.

He had a MAGA hat in his truck. So she slashed his tire

Nick Dugas left work at Paradise Valley Mall at 1:30 on a recent Saturday afternoon and noticed his SUV listing to the left.

“That doesn’t seem right,” he thought. Dugas saw that his front left tire was flat and groaned.

He needed to get his son to his math tutor. His mother was visiting from Seattle for her birthday.

Looking closer, Dugas saw a clean 3-inch slit through the neck of the Michelin man. His tire had been cut.

Dugas works as a retail security manager, so he went back into the mall to look at surveillance footage of the parking lot.

At 12:40 p.m., a car parked next to his SUV. Four women got out. Two of them peered into his vehicle — where there was a red “Make America Great Again” hat on the console.

The women went into a store, reappeared seven minutes later and got into their car. But a minute later, the driver and front passenger got out again.

The driver squatted next to his tire. The front passenger stood next to her, scanning the parking lot.

The left side of Dugas’ SUV dropped. The women got back into their car and drove away.[…]

The driver was 18. She admitted to police that she cut the tire. “She later told police that it was because she saw a hat with a political message inside the vehicle which she disagreed with,” spokesman Sgt. Vincent Lewis said in an email.

She was cited for criminal damage, a Class 2 misdemeanor, punishable by up to four months in jail and a $750 fine.

  28. Fearing for His Life

Ramsey Orta filmed the killing of Eric Garner. The video traveled far, but it wouldn’t get justice for his dead friend. Instead, the NYPD would exact their revenge through targeted harassment and eventually imprisonment — Orta’s punishment for daring to show the world police brutality.

Orta’s video — soon to be seen by the world — showed Garner trying to explain that he’d done nothing wrong. Then a police officer wrapped his arm around Garner’s neck, gripping him in a chokehold until he collapsed. The video showed Garner saying eleven times that he couldn’t breathe. It showed the officers ignoring Garner’s distress, pushing his head into the pavement, letting him lose consciousness there, die there.

Now, near midnight, Orta was in his apartment, the door locked behind him. His house was dark. His family was asleep. He went to the window, looking for the black Crown Vic that had tailed him as he’d walked home. He checked the security of the locks on the door, then checked again. He got into bed, but sleep wouldn’t come. Images from the day swirled above on his dark ceiling.

    1. Festus

      That’s not journalism.

    2. SugarFree

The NYPD report paints a different picture. It claims that officers were staking a known drug location. They observed Orta briefly enter and then exit the Hotel Richmond with a young woman, seventeen-year-old Alba Lekaj. When the officers approached, they saw Orta stuffing a .25-caliber semiautomatic pistol down Lekaj’s pants. The gun recovered from the scene had no bullets, no clip, and no fingerprints. It had been reported stolen in Michigan in 2007.

      Sounds legit.

Oh, no doubt. It’s the flowery prose that sets my teeth on edge. Tell the story without the superfluous embellishments.

        1. SugarFree

          1. Festus

Yeah, I hate “Nu Journalism”. Tell the fucking story without making a Movie of the Week about it. The facts need to speak for themselves. This is how we get Acosta’d.

  29. Gordilocks

Hi guys. Sorry I haven’t commented or taken part in some time. My life has been very challenging as of late, and I’ve had not much time for the internet, other than shooting from the hip on Twitter.

I am beyond sad and pissed off about this attack in New Zealand. I’ve been there three times and drove logging trucks there a long long time ago, and it’s near and dear to my heart. I spent much of the night texting my friends there, and holding my 10 month old daughter close.

As for the shooting and politics around it, 72 hour rule.

I am currently on my way to Thad Russell’s Renegade U weekend in DC. I will do my best to give him and Kmele Foster a shout out from you scoundrels.

    Take care

My house caught on fire in January. We are still not moved home, and living with my in-laws. FIL just had double knee surgery, wife’s car died, client at work is driving me nuts, we are all broke ….

My life is a country music song right now.

      1. Suthenboy

Good lord. I am sorry to hear that.
Few people truly appreciate how bad a house fire is. The fire itself is terrifying. The long term consequences are devastating. I am sorry that you found out the hard way. I hope things get better soon.

        1. Gordilocks

Zombie electrical wire cage alive in the basement due to deterioration in the panel. Melted hot wire insulation from joists to things on table underneath, then to firewood pile next to the table.

If we had arrived home 10 minutes later, the house would be gone. Major major major smoke damage and amelioration required.

    Serious journalism

In the video Op-Ed above, 9-year-old Zayne Cowie turns the table on grown-ups, reading a children’s book written especially for them: “Goodbye, Earth.” It calls out the adults who’ve failed at addressing climate change, leaving the consequences to be dealt with by younger generations.

Zayne Cowie (@zaynecowie) is a 9-year-old climate activist. He’s among a group of children and young adults leading the Global Youth Climate Strike on March 15 and will be striking at City Hall in New York.

WTF? I’ll be goddammed if I’ll watch that video. In a sane world, that kid would be out riding his bicycle in the woods somewhere, instead of being used as a political prop by a bunch of fanatical doomsday cultists.

The Times editorial board is probably working on an impassioned plea to give this kid the vote in federal elections.

    3. Gustave Lytton

Huh, let’s see what Twitter says in their T&C:

      1. Who May Use the Services

You may use the Services only if you agree to form a binding contract with Twitter and are not a person barred from receiving services under the laws of the applicable jurisdiction. In any case, you must be at least 13 years old, or in the case of Periscope 16 years old, to use the Services.

I’m sure Twitter will be all over shutting down a 9 year old’s account, right?

(As if it was actually his account and not his parents pulling that crap)

    4. Juvenile Bluster

You know what my 9 year old is interested in? Reading books, playing with her friends and playing with her Nintendo Switch. Like a normal kid.

I’m in Maple Grove for my son’s peewee B state tourney. They surprised a lot of people to get here. Knocked off Duluth East and a couple others to win regions. The cake eaters didn’t give them much of a chance. In fact Duluth East forfeited their last district game to get a lower seed so they could play Ely. Wrong move! They got pretty chippy at the end of the game. One kid tomahawk chopped another kid and one kid blasted my son off the last face off with 1.8 seconds left (checking, interference, roughing, take your pick). Pretty poor sportsmanship.

Shit, if you go by how Russian Navy personnel drank the coolant out of their torpedoes causing them to lose a $2 billion SSGN when one heated up and detonated in the torpedo magazine, I wouldn’t be surprised that they are all drunk (or blind) from drinking whatever fluids they could find on board.

      2. cyto

        Yeah….

I never have piloted a big ship… But I would guess that it would kind of become a habit to look for the giant, really tall suspension bridge or some sort of lift bridge… they really tend to stand out in port cities. The channel is never in the concrete beam bridge spans. Must have really been hitting the vodka….

        1. AlexinCT

Laws of physics (inertia) are a bitch. Slowing down or speeding up big heavy things, or even changing their course, is not a easy task.

      3. cyto

My only real guess is that they had the thing on autopilot and didn’t make it to the bridge to take it off and steer in to the channel in time. It was going pretty fast on the way in, and I really doubt anyone steered for that bridge on purpose. Nobody is that dumb….

        1. “It says ‘autopilot’ – should stay in lane to dock, no?”

            I actually laughed… out loud.

It really is amazing how dumb people can be.

Computer people really tend to notice this because of the way our brains are trained…. so much so that I always have to remind my programmers that even the dumbest user is really, really smart. As in, they’ll figure out an extremely clever way to work around the system and get what they want, even if it breaks everything around them. I’ve had several major system issues that cost the company huge amounts of money that were caused by users very stupidly finding very clever ways to screw stuff up.

This is so true. Sometimes when you can’t figure out how something is getting screwed up, the best thing to do is to ask the user to go through the exact process they use every day while you watch. It’s just amazing the shit they get up that you’d never expect.

A friend of mine nearly saw a guy killed like that. He hired the guy to move his 600+ lb gun safe from a 2nd story room to a new house. He said they showed up and it was just a very large gentleman and his very skinny sidekick. Big guy was on the downstairs side, little guy was on the upstairs side pulling a rope. Big guy kinda missed a step halfway down and nearly surfed down underneath. Little guy got towed to the top of the stairs. If the guy underneath hadn’t caught himself, both of them probably would have wound up dead or horribly injured at the bottom.

      1. Suthenboy

One of my safes weighs one ton. When the mover guys arrived it was on a flat bed truck and they had a single dolly. There were four of them and they managed to get it off of the truck without getting killed but just barely. Rather than put it where I wanted I had them move it ten feet and against the wall in the garage.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Friday tore into the National Rifle Association (NRA) after at least one gunman opened fire at two New Zealand mosques, leaving at least 49 people dead.

It’s on page 11 of the manifesto (the FAQ), in answer to the question “Why did you choose to use firearms?”.

Why did you choose to use firearms?
I could have chosen any weapons or means.A TATP filled rental van. Household flour, a method of dispersion and an ignition source.A ballpeen hammer and a wooden shield.Gas,fire, vehicular attacks, plane attacks, any means were available. I had the will and I had the resources.
I chose firearms for the affect it would have on social discourse, the extra media coverage they would provide and the affect it could have on the politics of United states and thereby the political situation of the world. The US is torn into many factions by its second amendment, along state, social, cultural and, most importantly, racial lines.
With enough pressure the left wing within the United states will seek to abolish the second amendment, and the right wing within the US will see this as an attack on their very freedom and liberty.
This attempted abolishment of rights by the left will result in a dramatic polarization of the people in the United States and eventually a fracturing of the US along cultural and racial lines.

Is it possible that the PewdiePie reference is a 4chan troll? It just seems so weird that he’d be referenced since his videos are basically him just gaming. The notion of a racial attack against Muslims seems plausible, but then referencing PewdiePie just seems like 4chan trolling reporters. But, I don’t know.

I’m actually really getting into some of his esoteric works. The subject was a fascination of mine in my youth (mores as RPG fodder and fiction than a belief system) and he seems quite knowledgeable. Of course, YMMV.

          1. “Tulsi Gabbard Apologist”

I never listen to Styx (dude needs to put a shirt on), but I’d be weary about what esoteric writers he references. There’s a weird overlap between far-right ideologues and the occult since before World War II. Julio Evola is one most prominent for writing books on the occult and neo-fascist books.

Which is not meant to denigrate those who practice or believe in the occult.

          2. l0b0t

I agree but the stuff I’ve seen from Styx is of a much earlier vintage (think 1st – 16th century).

So he’s a learned man without a shirt. I honestly never would have expected that. Seems like interesting reads.

        1. Rasilio

Forget what they call themselves as a practical matter I do not see how what China is today is anything but a straight up Fascist country.

          It has every single element.

Strong government control of the economy via regulation rather than direct ownership
          Ultra nationalist
          Focus on racial superiority
          Highly militaristic
          Authoritarian
Strictly enforced social fabric with outsiders being jailed or worse

The Chinese are not Nazi’s as they do not appear to have the level of demonization of some outsider group in the same way as the the Germans did in the Jews but they fit in perfectly with the Fascism of Mussolini or Franco.

It is funny for 70 years people have been proclaiming that Fascism was killed by the second world war, when I look around what I see is the majority of governments are in some way fascist and most moving ever more in that direction because the second world war has distorted our view of what Fascism is to the point where most cannot recognize it when they see it.

          1. kbolino

“Socialism with Chinese characteristics” is the official name (the more egotistical name for the current version is “Xi Jinping Thought”, following on from “Deng Xiaoping Thought”, which itself was about squaring the introduction of market economics with “Mao Zedong Thought”).

Basically, the Chinese communists claim that they’re in the very early stages of socialism, and that some measure of market economics and quasi-private ownership of the means of production is necessary to advance to the later stages, where they can eventually reach full communism. It remains to be seen what actually happens next.

As to the denunciation of outsiders, I don’t think the Uyghurs would agree with your take on it. But, a long-standing characteristic of the Chinese system has been the belief that it’s better than other forms of socialism, and they can transform people rather than having to kill them (not that they didn’t kill lots of people), hence converting Pu Yi to socialism vs. the Soviets executing all of the Romanovs. So the Uyghurs are sent to camps for reeduction, which unlike the Soviet gulags, they do eventually leave (at least, some of them).

          2. Rasilio

Right that is the difference. The Uyghurs are not persecuted because they are a targeted scapegoat for all that ills the Chinese people and government, they are persecuted because they do not follow the party line. For those willing to be re-educated they are allowed to reenter Chinese society (albeit as a member of a lower social caste). Eventually the surviving Uyghurs would disappear and become Chinese and be fully welcomed within the society.

This sets them apart from Nazism but in every other respect they are identical to a Fascist state.

  49. The Late P Brooks

    Old, but still amusing

“Today we announced a number of immediate, concrete next steps we’re taking, including bringing in an outside organization to conduct a comprehensive assessment of our internal climate and workplace practices, to ensure that our talented staff is working in the environment that they deserve – one in which all voices are heard and all staff members are respected,” he said.

Dees co-founded the group in 1971 alongside civil rights leader Julian Bond and lawyer Joe Levin. He served as the nonprofit’s chief litigator for years.

The organization is known for tracking hate groups in the United States.

“The SPLC is deeply committed to having a workplace that reflects the values it espouses — truth, justice, equity and inclusion — and we believe the steps we have taken today reaffirm that commitment,” Cohen stated.

    A monster under every bed.

For too long we have allowed the left to co-opt the environmentalist

      autonomists
If an ethnocentric European future is to be achieved global free markets

An environmentally conscious and moral society will never be able to
economically compete with a society based on ever increasing
industrialization, urbanization, industrial output and population increase.
The cheaper labour and ignorance of environmental health will always
result in cheaper goods produced with less effort and inevitably result in
      control of the market.
A Europe of nature, culture and sustainable living practicing will not be
able to ever compete in the global market.
The global market thus therefore never be allowed to compete in the new

be a major aim in overthrowing the global power structure and the Wests’

In the United States, perhaps more than anywhere else in the world, the
cult of the individual has been practiced for the longest time and with the
      deepest devotion.
Luckily for us, the end results of this deracialized, irreligious and
      deculturized program show themselves.
The United States is in turmoil, more so that at any other time in history.
States hate other states, the electoral college is under attack at every turn
and the races are at each others throats. On top of this is a two party
political system, split by racial, social, cultural, linguistic and class
      divides.
The end result is a nation in gridlock, unable to respond to any great
change, unable to commit to any great projects. A political and social
stalemate that makes any advancement impossible.
Meanwhile the 10000 ton boulder of demographic change rolls ever
forward, gaining momentum and possibly destroying all in its path.
Eventually, when the white population of the USA realizes the truth of the
situation, war will erupt. Soon the replacement of the whites within Texas
will hit its apogee and with the non-white political and social control of
Texas;and with this control, the electoral college will be heavily stacked
in favor of a democratic victory so that every electoral cycle will be a
      certainty.
After an election cycle or two with certain Democratic victory, those
remaining, non democratic voting, non brainwashed whites will see the
future clear before them, and with this knowledge realize the
impossibility of a diplomatic or political victory.
Within a short time regular and widespread political, social and racial

    Appearance of impropriety?

The Sanders Institute, a think tank founded by the wife and son of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), is shutting down, The Associated Press reported Thursday.

The Vermont institute stopped accepting donations and will suspend all operations by the end of May “so there could not even be an appearance of impropriety,” Jane Sanders told AP.

Critics have said the think tank blurs lines between family, fundraising and campaigns.

    ——-

Speaking to AP, Jane Sanders kept the door open for the institute to begin taking donations again once Bernie Sanders is no longer running for president.

“I think that was the most important thing to do — to not accept donations, because nobody should think that they’re giving money to an organization and that gains them access or favor to anybody else and anybody running for office,” she said in an interview this week.

“It just seemed the responsible thing to do,” Jane Sanders added.

If anybody should know about that, Jane Sanders might.

What ever could have happened to that investigation, I wonder.

Does anyone know how to block auto playing videos? I’m using adblock, chrome, ghostery, tampermonkey. I cannot get the damned things to stop. They are the ones that will pop out when you scroll past them. Driving me nuts.

    1. l0b0t

I run NoScript and it blocks every one I’ve come across. Caveat, No Script can be a PITA because there are so damn many scripts running on most websites.

    2. Rhywun

The only way I found was to manually block that shit using Stylish. PITA, though. So I’ve only done it for a few sites I visit regularly.

I have one on my home pc that blocks everything, but I forget the name. Keep your eyes peeled on the PM links comments and I will try to post the name of it then (unless someone does it here). Most websites become text only, and somewhat unformatted. Then you click something on a toolbar that shows you all the blocked stuff and you can pick and choose which ones you want to allow (always, once, or never) and the page will refresh. You kind of have to take an educated guess based on the names, but you will be amazed how many sites are going to 50 other places (no exaggeration). Amazon for example has their images on another site, so you might want to allow that one permanently, for example. YouTube stuff is always abbreviated ‘yt’ and you probably have to click about 3 or 4 of the blocked sites to get a video to play.

In the meantime, try an addon called RequestPolicy.

An ethics chief under former President Barack Obama on Thursday compared the college admissions scandal to President Donald Trump reportedly pressuring White House officials to grant top-secret security clearances to his daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

“Quite the parallel between members of the decadent golf set cheating to get their kids into college and a decadent golf setter cheating to get his daughter and son-in-law clearances after committing nepotism to get them civil service jobs,” tweeted Walter Shaub, former director of the Office of Government Ethics. “Except for the national security risks.”

The Washington Post reported last month that the president had pressured then-chief of staff John Kelly to grant top-secret security clearances to Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, both senior White House advisers, against the advice of career intelligence officials,

Shaub frequently tweets about the ethics of the president, his family and administration.

    Whatever, dude. Take your meds.

Given the problems the guy has hiring outside his family, maybe the mafioso approach is understandable.

Does anyone know how to block auto playing videos?

    I wish.

The only thing I can do is keep the sound turned off, so at least I don’t get bombarded with the sound track.

    1. Festus

Embrace the cacophony! The thing that pisses me off is that half the time the auto-play has nothing to do with the content that you wanted to view. Fucking Porn-Hub…

I wonder if she knows he doesn’t actually work for her

Rep. Maxine Waters on Thursday called for the firing of Wells Fargo & Co. Chief Executive Tim Sloan after the bank reported his pay increased last year by nearly $1 million despite continued consumer scandals.

As fucked up as corporate governance in this country might be, Allowing Congressblobs to dictate personnel policy in order to incite the mob is a bad idea. The Wells Fargo board really needs to tell her to fuck off, in no uncertain terms.

UGH… maybe that The Rent Is Too Damn High fellow is on to something. We’re at the point where we are gonna need to get another bedroom for the kids. Everything we’re seeing here on the peninsula is running around $1000 per bedroom (we are currently in a 2 BR for $1500). This sucks; I really don’t want to have to look for a third job.
