    Q: I am a cis woman in my mid-50s who’s been in a really nice relationship for about five years with a man my age. He grew up in a very stifling, fundamentalist family and later became the father in a similar family. When we met, he was recently divorced and beginning to discover the rest of the world. We have had a terrific five years, filled with exploration and honesty, and it has been refreshing. I genuinely love him. Recently, he has expressed his wish to begin dressing as a woman. Apparently this has been a long-buried interest that he felt unable to explore; I am very happy for him. We’ve shopped for clothes, laughed about the ridiculousness of makeup and heels, and found some venues where he feels comfortable going out all dressed up.     Actor in TV show I have never heard of tells fantastical story about getting recognized by two bigoted Trump supporters in the middle of the dead of night in the middle of downtown Chicago in the middle of a polar vortex where everyone would be dressed like Eskimos and had liquid dumped on him, a noose wrapped around his neck, and yelled “this is MAGA country”.  Not only does is read like a terrible Law and Order script, combined with the the location and time, it seems beyond impossible.  Hell, I would still struggle to believe it if it had occurred in June in the middle of nowhere in Alabama.
